Arcade Cabinet
#1
Planning on building a arcade cabinet some time after the holidays, either I will build from scratch or gut out a used one and build it using Retro Pi. Not entirely sure yet. I was looking at the new cabinets made by 1up, and was probably going to buy one and see how it is set up and maybe add on to it. I really do need to sit down and plan this out. If anyone has some experience building cabinets, please give me some pointers.

Sounds great, keep us posted if its not to much trouble. I'd love to see how this comes along Smile

If you have access to woodwork tools, there are a ton of schematics online for all size cabs.
Including PI Cabs.

Biggsy666 - Will do. May be a work in progress for a couple months, unless my income tax is a good amount, then I may buy everything, or close to it any way. I quoted about $367.00, minus the particle board, lights and decals.

ZX81v2 - I do have some wood working tools, I did look at some of the schematics, and some of them look to be useful. I will use some of the templates and probably create my own variation based off of some of them. Thank you for the tip, I can't wait to be able to get started.

The 1up cabs aren't bad, I have the street fighter 2 cab. I recommend changing out the sticks though due to the fact their base is square instead of circular. Other than that I love it.

I always thought about doing a project like you! I'd build my own custom cabinet with a RetroPi or so as well. On the other side of things, I'd totally go search for either trashed or being sold off Cabinets/PCBs of ol' and bring them back to life (Replacing parts with originals if possible, polishing up, etc.)

Yea, there is a amusement rental place in town that quoted me a decent price for a used MK 2 cabinet. It does have some wear on it, but the decals and marquee are in good shape, just a little chipping on the bottom. I may get it. But I was wanting to go a little more retro and see if I can get a Pac Man, Joust, or Pit Fall cabinet.
