Limited Run to sell free Doom mega wad for $166

Pre-orders for this are about to go live...

John Romero's Sigil

...it's being termed as a "mega wad" for the original Doom.
It releases for free in February to anyone with a licensed version of the original Doom, I'm just amused by a $166 boxset for free dlc.

Would anyone here consider buying this?

Limited Run is a stupid company that should die ASAP anyway.
Just looking over their "Store" I really have to wonder why they even bother to still list everything if 99% is Sold Out anyway because they are only producing stupidly small Print Runs of their games.

I agree - it bugs me that the quantity stated as being available isn't even produced at the time orders open. If you take a look at their shipping schedule there are a number of titles that were 'sold' more than 6 months ago that still haven't shipped, and in some cases are still marked as 'in production'.
It would be more appealing if they opened up orders for X amount of hours and then produced a quantity to cover those orders, rather than state there are X amount of yet-to-be-produced titles available that sell out within seconds... isn't that usually how pre-orders work?

John Romero trying to milk Doom once more, why this doesn't surprise me Big Grin
And since he can't sell wads he goes to the "limited special box set" route, good luck but no thanks.

John's a great designer, but he should just follow 3D Realms example and make something new with the engine.

I'm not a fan of limited run games. Their business model is to make enough so the people that want to go to their games room and touch themselves over the idea they have something other people don't. My guess is the majority of the games they sell never get opened.

They do have a nack for pissing people off makes no sense to me I think its honestly for people who love the idea of collecting rare games and never getting rid of them for me its not about that its about having fun playing something.

I completely agree.
I've only bought one thing from Limited Run (which, incidentally, I'm still waiting for them to produce) and that's the physical release of Night Trap on the Vita... there's a few reasons why I wanted this; 1. The 'remake/rerelease' hasn't been released in Europe on any platform yet, even digitally. 2. The game is a guilty pleasure of mine - and one which I'm looking forward to re-playing on a handheld device. 3. The final, and least important for me (but probably most important to LR's regular customers), is the fact that it's one of the final physical Vita releases, made in limited numbers and will only increase in value.
Tbh, if it had any sort of European release (even digital only) for either PS4 or Vita, I wouldn't have bothered with the LR version.
Side note; I hit 'buy' button literally the second the orders went live and still somehow missed out on the initial batch of the regular release, but found that 30 seconds later they still had stock for the deluxe edition... funny that Dodgy
