My 1541 went broke :(

Sad times,

My 1541 disk drive for Commodore 64 went broke.

I was trying to transfer D64 floppies from PC to 1541, using XUM1541. It will stops in 1 percent and that's it.

I was confused 'cause that drive reads floppies and format those. After that I tried that drive on my real C64 and trying to save a file into disk. Nothing happens but the terrible noise from that drive.

So I decided to buy a new 1541 drive. I saw a one drive with a good condition and it has also been cleaned and capasitors have also changed. I bought it on 30 euros and I give my old drive as a change.

This was my choice; I do not have more money than that 30 euros, but I'll take my choice and will eat cheap pasta for two weeks before I can get my wage.

My question is; Do you priorize electronics/games/consoles/computers ahead of food or other needs?

Sad fate of your floppy drive.
As for question, i do enjoy good food as much as anyone else, but if choice is to get console i need or to endolge in some fancy food or snack, console gets absoloute priority, i can eat junk for a while.

It sucks when stuff like this happens age catches up with us all. I used one of those so called Atari old school drive to new computer adaptors that you can get on ebay way back and it fried one of my Atari 810 drives. Seller was a prick in Canada was not helpfull at all. I would not be surprised if the adaptor fried it.

Yeah...every component has the limited of age. I'm gladly that found a guy who gave me cleaned and checked drive with very good condition with low price. Also with an changed capacitors. Even the capacitor change will easily costs that 30 euros here in Finland. The prices of old electronics won't get down anymore. It is always a little bit of risky to plug in old RW.
