Remakes That Are Worst Than The Original

after seeing game play of Castlevania Requiem for the PS4 and seeing that SOTN is the PSP version and not the superior PS1 version that was also released on the 360 i had to ask, what remakes are worse than than the Original

As for Rondo Of Blood, it is the PC Engine version so i may get the game since i never got to play it.

First thing that comes to mind would be Conker: Live and Reloaded, simply for being even more censored than the Nintendo original. I also felt a bit mixed on Tomb Raider Anniversary, since it really seemed like Crystal Dynamics tried to do a fairly pure "spiritual remake," but it was painfully linear compared to the original. Movement didn't feel as precise, either.
As for Castlevania: Requiem, I'm still wondering why they didn't just give an option to change which audio track you wanted (Japan/US Original/PSP Re-recording) like Sega did with Sonic CD. The direct transfer from PSP and the release date really makes me think Sony/Konami did this to quickly cash in on the recent popularity of the Netflix cartoon, as well as the success of Capcom's Mega Man ports. Still, I've been emulating both available games for a while and don't have a PS4, so I don't really have a horse in the race. If it's all you have, I guess it would do.

I disagree with the Tomb Raider Anniversary, and thought it was great! This coming from a guy who has it on PS1, Saturn, and PS3.

I do agree with Conkers, however.

I disagree with that statement too, its mostly to do with the time we live in, Movie remakes in the 80s and 90s like The Thing, Night of the Living Dead, The Blob, etc were all good.

Nowadays nobody wants to take the risk of a good remake anymore most of the time,

Video Game Remakes also relate to that sort, but to a lesser extent in that more people are actually willing to remake a game for the better, or for worse.

Honestly I just wish that they would go into the extended universes of old games more than remaking them/remastering them.

Eh, it's why I said "mixed," I just really like the grid based platforming in the original. Brings it more in line with its roots in Prince of Persia. I haven't played that many remakes actually, but I really liked Dune 2000. Better units, slightly more fleshed out objectives, and John Rhys-Davies barking "FOR THE DUKE!" directly in my face, it's all good.

NuThief and NuWolfenstein TNO. Both for trying to chove down angsty and/or "shocking" narrative in a genre where cutscenes were extremely minimal and in-gameplay narrative would tell all you needed to know.

Not to also mention that map design-wise both remakes suck compared to their predecessors.

i just wish castlevanina for PS4 had the PSP remake playable.

100% agree. Although I still think it's worth the reasonably low price tag for the versions of the two games it does include.
I would've liked it to also include the Wiiware only remake of Castlevania Adventure (Rebirth), which (due to it being a digital only release on a now ostensibly dead digital market place) means it's inaccessible to anyone without a legit download or a soft modded wii/wii u.

Never been a big fan of the Lufia 2 remake on DS. I don't think it was a bad game, per se, I just think they messed up the tone and story of the original game too much, along with it running like ass on the DS.

But I just hate the new Voice Actress for Mei Ling, in the Original Version she sounded extremly cute and because of the Original Voice actress she had a believable Asian accent, wich makes sense because she is supposed to be of Chinese Origin, In the Remake she just sounds so...bland. In Addition the much more over the top cutscenes are just stupid.
Actually, believe it or not, the voice actress for Mei Ling in all the MGS games is the same person. For the later games they just told her to drop the accent in her voice acting.

Likewise for Psycho Mantis, too, iirc.

Most of the voice cast is the same. It just seems like the direction in the game wasn't as good as the original, imo, and that can have a big impact on how voice acting comes out, as well.

One that comes to mind is the Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD they did, in my opinion at least. I don't know if they patched/fixed it but when I originally bought it the game was a bit of a mess. Not to mention the lack of local multiplayer.

As much as I hate to say it, Grezzo's 3DS remake of Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

I only need to point to the butchered boss fights (ESPECIALLY Gyorg and Twinmold). Also small things like Zora Link's GIMPed swimming controls and the Bomber's Notebook opening whenever a new note is added, instead of a simple prompt.

It's sad too, because I really liked the idea of the new features that were added (the fishing ponds, though I never got too far in that)

Flashback remastered was way worse than the original, well in my opinion.
The follow up to flashback, fade to black, on the other hand i think would benefit from a remaster, i played it a lot when i first picked up a ps1 and if the broken control system and the shitty save game system had been better it would have been a fab game.
It was a pretty groundbreaking game back in the day, one of the first 3rd person action/platformers that i can recall.

EDIT.... after a little think about it, can we count the more modern bomberman games, i was quite happy with bomberman on the snes myself, so to see some of the skewed isometric/ 3D shit served up with this franchise is pointless.
It's a simple formula and doesn't need to be messed around with, unless of course you want to chuck in a 10 player mode, i'm looking at you saturn.
