This is a text tutorial on how to install FHDB and HDD OSD 48-Bit onto your Phat PS2
This isn't really a beginners tutorial as it does not go into depth on how to use WinHIIP, uLaunchELF, and FMCB installer.

PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK
There is very little chance of messing anything up with the system by performing this softmod

There will be 2 Parts to this tutorial. First part (A) will be how to install FHDB using a FMCB memory card.
Second part (B) will be how to install HDD OSD onto your hard drive if you already have FHDB installed.

Requirements:
1.) A Phat PS2, of course. (SCPH-10000, SCPH-15000, and SCPH-18000, SCPH-3000x, 3500x, 3900x, or 500xx model)
2.) FMCB Memory Card or Free DVD Boot disc. Must have a way to launch uLaunchELF
3.) WinHIIP - A PC application used to install PS2 CD/DVD images onto a hard disk drive (link redirects to guide on how to use and download)
4.) USB Thumb Drive. At least 1GB recommended [Make sure your USB is formatted as FAT32]
5.) A PS2 Network Adapter
6.) A PS2 compatible HDD. IDE or SATA, for SATA you will need an IDE to SATA converter. Here is a HDD compatibility list for PS2 - Click Here
7.) PS2 Fat Softmod.rar - this rar file has all the files you will need to perform this softmod

Part A) Installing with FMCB Memory Card:
  1. Connect your Hard Drive to your computer and Format HDD as 48-bit HDLoader using WinHIIP
[You may need to run WinHIIP as administrator for your HDD to show in the list of drives]
  2. Plug your USB into the PC. Make sure it is formatted as FAT32.
Place the _sysconf, _system, and FMCB folders onto the root of your usb. eject the drive when finished.
  3. Slide HDD into PS2, insert FMCB memory card and USB drive, power on console
  4. Launch uLaunchELF & copy contents of _sysconf + _system folders from USB (mass) to HDD [Replace files if needed]
  5. Launch FMCB Installer & install FHDB
  6. Power off console

Once you reboot your console you should boot into FHDB and should be able to access your HDD from the browser (you now have Browser 2.0)!

If you do not have a FMCB memory card, I would suggest purchasing an official sony memory card that has FMCB on it. You can get one from ebay. I would advise against getting an unofficial memory card as they are not very reliable.

Part B) Installing HDD OSD onto existing FHDB setup
  1. Plug your USB into the PC. Make sure it is formatted as FAT32.
Place the _sysconf and _system folders onto the root of your usb, eject the drive when finished.
  2. Make sure the HDD is in the PS2, insert USB drive, power on console
  3. Launch uLaunchELF & copy contents of _sysconf + _system folders from USB (mass) to HDD [Replace files if needed]
  4. Power off console

Once you reboot your console you should be able to access your HDD from the browser (you now have Browser 2.0)!

Here is how to install FHDB without a memory card: Click Here

If you are having trouble with the HDD after doing this, ie. you are not able to see more than 128 GB on your HDD. You may need to use WinHIIP to change your drive settings to 48 Bit HD Loader
