Netplay Events?

Perhaps once RetroZone is a bit more developed and uploads are sorted out, we can do Netplay events for things like Dolphin, SNES, etc.

Would be a fun way to kick back once every week or every other week and bring the community together.
What are your opinions on this and what games would make for great nights of fun with strangers?

Totally down for that. Always up for a community get-together for some retro gaming fun.

They would be extremely small groups for each "game" for each system though. Dolphin having the most players at once. Most older systems were mainly developed only up to 2 players. Still fun nonetheless. So, would we pick community members that show up during the events and in a randomizer pair groups up for a particular game or how shall it be done?

I figure we could have voice channel rooms set up in the Discord server and just pick a main game for that night of events and people split off into parties / groups and we can see which group makes it the furthers or gets a higher score etc.

Example,
Thursday / Oct. 30th / 7:00 P.M EST - Dolphin Emulator v5.0 -XXX
Mario Party 7 / MD5 - bd367c67fca5d93e581a43d1f61f4514
Memory Card Slot A - Disabled / Memory Card Slot B - Disabled.

Voice Channels:
Looking For Group
Group 1 ( Limit member size to 4 )
Group 2 ( Limit member size to 4 )
Group 3 ( Limit member size to 4 )
etc

I would definitely be down. I like Matty's suggestion as well, on how it could work. A little friendly competition would be fun!

Hey Matty, I just would like to add a comment about Dolphin. A lot of the old ways having to be done as a prerequisite such as turning off MemCards, etc. no longer need to be done in the latest builds. There's other updates they've done that helps tremendously with netplay as well but I can't remember off the top of my head atm.

so we can use ours saves in netplay?

Yeah, I forget which build it was. Just a few months ago it was added. Under the netplay hosted room, there is the option to "Sync Saves". It will sync up the saves from the host and send them to the other clients. The good part is that will create it's own saved data in it's own folder for the netplay session so that any of your original saves will not be touched.

In one of the Monthly reports (I forget which month it was, will have to do a search), they go into detail of how it behaves and works.

Additionally added to the builds was "Strict Settings Sync"ing, Polling Rates, Host Import Authority, etc. These past few months they've added nice changes to netplay finally after quite a loooong time.

Oh wow, somehow I must of missed that in a Progress Report. That is wonderful! I remember having to Zip my Memorycard to send to friends when we wanted to play a story game in Co-op.

what games? man i wish they had an arcade emulator that allows 4 players and stuff like that for online that is good.

I've not tried it yet, but the PS3 port of retroarch now supports netplay - maybe we can look into utilizing that platform too. Some X-men vs Street Fighter over FB Alpha would be cool as fuck.

MameHub is in the process of being reworked entirely for general use and netplay for Arcades games (with other systems included/MESS) so something to look out for too.

Theres gotta be a way to play mame on the net right. Just a thought

Oh yeah, there is. Just a lot of them are not very reliable. Many rely on Kaillera which has severely aged. There is Fightcade/GGPO but only has a very limited list of games that can be used. The closest, like mentioned before, is MAMEHUB. Comparable to the likes of GGPO, though runs under Java (the frontend). The creator is remaking MAMEHUB v2 in a different format away from Java but haven't given it a try yet. Only can be found on their discord atm I believe.
